A dispute at a Fort Collins hotel last night led to one man getting stabbed in the neck and another facing first-degree assault charges, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Department said this afternoon.

The victim, a 44-year-old man, was not named. He showed up at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins just before 10 p.m. bleeding from his neck.

Scott O’Neill, 38, of Fort Collins was still at the Plaza Hotel near Interstate 25, where the assault allegedly took place, when sheriff’s deputies contacted him.

No weapon was found, but after questioning O’Neill he was arrested and booked into the Larimer County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault.

Court records show O’Neill was convicted on drug charges in Weld County in 2003 and was sentenced to community corrections. The length of the sentence was not included in an online court database, but it states he last reported to the courts May 2010.
