Authorities are continuing their investigation into the motive behind the death of Youn Malual, who was shot and killed in the parking lot of his Arapahoe County apartment complex.
Shortly after 3 a.m. on Monday, Malual was shot as he returned from work. Deputies arrived at the apartment complex in the 1100 block of South Xenia Street after receiving a 911 call about gun shots.
Deputies found Malual, 43, sitting in the driver’s seat of his gold sports utility vehicle.
“It does not appear that he was touched after he was shot,” said Bruce Williamson, bureau chief for the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.
Malual’s wallet and debit card were left in his back pants pocket. While authorities have not ruled out any motives behind the shooting, it does not appear to be a botched robbery, Williamson said.
A dark colored SUV was seen leaving the the complex shortly after the shooting, Williamson said.
No suspects have been identified.
Investigators are aggressively pursuing several angles.
Six years ago, Malual and his family moved to Denver after fleeing civil war in what is now South Sudan.
Friends said Malual was well liked and worked hard to provide for his wife and five children, ages 2 to 17.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact authorities.
