President Barack Obama announced his intent to appoint Margaret Murnane, a distinguished professor of physics and a fellow of JILA — a joint institute of the University of Colorado at Boulder and the National Institute of Standards and Technology — as chairwoman of the President’s Committee on the National Medal of Science.

Murnane also is a fellow of the American Physical Society, the Optical Society of America and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
