Authorities are looking for a man suspected of impersonating a police officer and sexually assaulting a woman in Loveland Thursday night.
Around 10 p.m., the woman pulled her car over in the area of West 32nd Street and Glade Road, after a black sedan with a red light stopped her, according to a news release from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.
A man approached her car and said he was a police officer and sexually assaulted her.
No weapons were involved in the assault.
The man was described as being medium in height and build. He had graying hair cut above his ears, blue eyes and was wearing dark uniform-style clothing with a patch on one of the shoulders.
The suspect did not show the woman a badge and was not wearing a gun belt.
The vehicle is a dark-colored, older-model, police-style sedan, with spotlights on both the driver and passenger sides. It may be a Chevrolet Impala.
Descriptions of the suspect and the car were sent out to law enforcement agencies in the area as an alert.
A team of investigators has been assigned to the case.
Authorities are urging drivers to be cautious when they are stopped by unmarked vehicles. Motorists should turn on their flashers, drive to a well lit and populated spot before stopping their car.
Drivers should remain in their vehicles until an additional officer in a marked car arrives. Most law enforcement vehicles are later models with large emergency light systems.
Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call the Sheriff’s office at 970-498-5176 or Crime Stoppers at 970-221-6868.
