ASPEN, Colo.—Billionaire Bill Koch is leading a campaign to install guard rails along a scenic road leading to his part-time home near Aspen.
Koch’s planning consultant, Tom Newland, told The Aspen Times ( ) that Koch went off Castle Creek Road a couple of years ago in a spot where other drivers have had accidents. Newland said another factor is that some of Koch’s children are nearing driving age.
Installing five miles of guard rail would cost more than $1 million but the proposal calls for paying for it with private funds.
Reaction has been mixed. Some think good snow tires and obeying the speed limit are enough to keep people safe on the road.
Separately, Koch is among nine plaintiffs suing Aspen over plans for a hydroelectric plan on Castle Creek.
