Tonight’s BCS championship game looks to be all about the Southeastern Conference.

LSU vs. Alabama, playing in SEC territory at the Superdome, a short drive away for the Tigers, an hour’s flight for the Crimson Tide.

But when it’s time to kick it off with a national title on the line, it will be the whistle of Ranum High School graduate Scott Novak getting it started.

Novak, who played college baseball as a pitcher at Metro State, will be the referee, heading an all-star crew from the Big 12 Conference.

Novak, whose son Ryan is a college prospect who just finished his junior season as the quarterback at Heritage High School in Littleton, has plenty of big-game experience.

In past seasons, Novak refereed the Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl.

This season, his list of big games included LSU vs. Oregon, Oklahoma vs. Florida State and Oklahoma State vs. Texas A&M.
