The man fatally shot in Broomfield Saturday night by a Brighton Police officer was identified today.

The Adams County Coroner today said Shad Pemberton,36, of Brighton, died at Denver Health from a gunshot wound to the abdomen after refusing to obey a police order to drop a handgun that he was wielding.

According to a press release issued by the Brighton Police Department, police shouted repeatedly at Pemberton to drop his weapon as he walked directly toward them after exiting a silver Honda Accord that had its tires deflated by devices known as stop sticks.

Pemberton was shot near the 3200 block of 144th Avenue

The incident happened after Pemberton fled from police following an incident at a Diamond Shamrock convenience store at 385 E. Bromley Lane.
