Two men and a woman used pepper spray to get away from store security at a Target in Sheridan on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The three, all white and in their 20s, fled in a maroon Kia four-door with Florida handicapped license plate Z7AKZ, Sheridan Police Chief Mark Campbell said.

A man and a woman were seen inside the store shoplifting electronics, Campbell said.

When a security officer approached them near the exit, a third person came in from outside the store and sprayed the officer.

Six people were affected by the pepper spray, including one who was transported to a hospital as a precaution, according to the Denver Fire Department. Denver Fire provides service to the city of Sheridan under a contract.

Denver Fire and a private hazardous-material company hired by Target ventilated the store at 3650 Riverpoint Parkway, which has since reopened, Campbell said.

A similar incident happened Sunday in Denver at the Walmart Supercenter at 7700 West Quincy Ave., when two men attempted to mace a security guard.

The vehicle in that case was not described as specifically but was similar. Witnesses said only that it was red, said Raquel Lopez, a spokeswoman for Denver police. She said it’s too soon to tell if the two cases are related.
