A man suspected of cutting locks off storage unit doors was arrested this morning, after officers found damaged locks scattered on the floorboard in the suspect’s vehicle.

Around 4:56 a.m., the owners of the Academy Place Storage, located at 2345 Academy Place, facility were checking on the units after some recent burglaries, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department’s blotter.

As they were leaving, the owners saw an SUV pull up to the lot. They reported seeing a man get out of the SUV and what they thought sounded like bolt cutters being used on some locks.

The owners called 9-1-1 and officers arrived on scene three minutes later.

Officers stopped 28-year-old Scott Killey in an SUV about 200 feet from the storage facility.

Broken locks were found on the floorboard beneath Killey’s feet.

The investigation is ongoing and investigators believe the crime is part of a pattern.
