PUEBLO, Colo.—A Pueblo police officer is facing misdemeanor charges of assault, falsifying documents, oppression and misconduct stemming from an incident at a bar.
The Pueblo Chieftain reports 26-year-old Derek Wyberg and fellow officers Thomas DeCesaro and Antoinette Ramos were on duty and checking on a bar in April when they arrested Nick Falletta after a scuffle. Falletta’s friend was dating Wyberg’s ex-girlfriend.
Falletta’s attorney, Jim Carleo, contends Wyberg falsified a report on the scuffle to make it look like Falletta provoked the officers. Charges against Falletta were later dismissed.
An internal investigation resulted in discipline against Wyberg and DeCesaro.
Wyberg could lose his job with the police department if convicted. His phone number isn’t listed, and he couldn’t be reached for comment Friday.
