DENVER—Denver’s Civil Service Commission has ordered the reinstatement of two officers who were fired after a 2009 incident in which two women were shoved to the ground and pepper-sprayed.
The Denver Post reports ( ) the commission also ordered former officers Kevin Devine and Ricky Nixon get back pay and benefits.
The ruling came Friday.
Charles Garcia, the city’s manager of safety at the time, fired the officers in April on allegations of deception and inappropriate force. Garcia said the officers’ reports didn’t match eyewitness accounts.
The Civil Service Commission says the officers didn’t intend to deceive or hide the truth. The commission also notes that witness accounts were imprecise.
City officials haven’t said whether they will appeal.
