NEW YORK—There’s a new twist to the case of a New York City man accused in one of the most serious terror plots since the Sept. 11 attacks.

A revised indictment accuses Adis Medunjanin (ah-DEES’ may-DOON’-yah-neen) and two former high school classmates of trying to recruit someone identified only as “John Doe” to travel to Pakistan “to wage violent jihad.”

It was the first time the government has linked that person to what evolved into a failed 2009 scheme by Najibullah Zazi (nah-jee-BOO’-lah ZAH’-zee) to attack Manhattan subway lines with suicide bombers.

A lawyer for Medunjanin said Thursday he wants the government to reveal the identity of the man before a trial set for March.

A spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office in Brooklyn declined comment Thursday.
