Giggling in the garden
Eclectic is the name of the game at Nature’s Gallery, a distinct Berkeley neighborhood home, gift and garden shop that has developed a loyal following since opening almost two years ago. Picture imperfect
Domino magazine, “the guide to living with style,” which published from 2004 to 2009, fell victim to the down economy. But its aesthetic lives on through former editor Deborah Needleman’s new tome, “The Perfectly Imperfect Home: How to Decorate & Live Well” (Clarkson Potter). The author meticulously goes through a home’s basic necessities — from lamps and lighting to quilts and coverlets — to highlight how each element can work better and pack personality. Plus, the whole thing is made more accessible and user-friendly, thanks to Virginia Johnson’s cheerful illustrations. “The point of decorating,” writes Needleman, now the editor of WSJ Magazine, “is to create the background for the best life you can have.”
