COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A district court judge is refusing to dismiss charges against a murder suspect despite what he calls “stunningly sloppy police work” by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Contractors digging in the Monument area found the body of Genesis Sims in 2010. Her father, Hanif Sims, is charged with first-degree murder. His girlfriend, Monique Lynch, pleaded guilty to child abuse causing death. Sims’ trial is scheduled to begin Jan. 30.
According to the Colorado Springs Gazette ( ), Sims never made a confession that detectives swore he made.
Defense attorneys are asking that the charges be dismissed.
