The Westminster Economic Development Authority on Monday night authorized the Westminster city manager to buy the 7.9-acre property at 5501 W. 88th Ave. that contains a Sears store and automotive center. The authority will buy the property for $4.2 million, with the closing anticipated to be Feb. 29.

The city said Sears will remain on the property until the end of June. The store and the auto center will then be demolished. Sears Holding Corp. announced Friday that it was closing the store.
