A fast-growing number of Americans are using two or more electronic gadgets daily, whether smartphones, tablets or e-readers. Studies show that tablet ownership doubled over the holidays, while nearly half of American cellphone users now own a smartphone.

If you’re looking for a bag to carry all of those devices, why not buy one that will also charge them?

During the recent International Consumer Electronics Show, I tested Powerbag’s Business Classic Pack, which comes standard with a 6,000 mAh battery, enough juice to charge the average smartphone four times.

The bag can repower up to four devices at once. It has built-in connectors for the iPhone/iPad and mini- and micro-USB devices (which includes Android smartphones) as well as an open USB slot.

What I liked: With ample pockets and compartments, I was able to comfortably fit a DSLR camera, two smartphones, a laptop and a tablet into the bag. I never had to worry about running out of power or finding an outlet during the show, which involved being on-the-go for more than 12 hours daily. The bag had enough padding to protect all of the devices, though it only had connectors to charge the tablet and smartphones.

Once a device is hooked up to a connector, you just push a button on the outside of the bag to charge it. At the end of the day, I repowered the battery pack by connecting the included AC wall adapter to a power slot hidden on the corner of the bag.

What I didn’t like: Despite its quality build, which evenly spreads the weight of the bag, it is heavy. Even though the battery pack is light, the bag is far bulkier than standard backpacks, even without the gadgets. And because there’s so much room, you’re tempted to load it up.

Another negative? You become an electrical outlet for power-mooching buddies.

The Business Classic Pack may be best-suited for the traveling businessperson or college student. It costs $180 and can be purchased at mypowerbag. com. Slimmer, and lower-priced, designs are available.
