GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Colorado regulators have slashed a fine over violations at four Delta County oil and gas wells after the company said they were unaware of a hearing and contended the fines were unfair.
The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission cut the fine from $200,000 to $20,000 after Colorado-based Aspen Operating LLC appealed 20 alleged violations at four wells drilled northwest of Orchard City in 2006.
According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel ( ), the company was accused of abandoning the wells without the permission of commission staff, failing to perform mechanical-integrity tests and not having bonding on them.
The company says the commission staff erred in releasing bonds originally posted by the wells’ prior owner.
