LAS CRUCES, N.M.—Sheriffs from Colorado are among the attendees at a sheriffs’ summit focusing on border security.

The Deming Headlight reports () that the Colorado sheriffs joined Tuesday their New Mexico counterparts from Grant, Hidalgo, Otero and Dona Ana counties for a two-day conference in Las Cruces.

Kelly Jameson, public information officer with the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Department, said the group will discuss how border security issues in border counties affect counties in the north.

New Mexico and Colorado authorities said they are looking to better coordinate investigations into drug and human smuggling.

Participants at the conference, which is closed to the general public, will tour the Santa Teresa Port of Entry and the border atop ATVs and from the sky in helicopters.
