The last full month of winter is generally a dry one in Denver, and the average temperatures normally rise over the course of the month. With an average temperature of 32.5 degrees, February is the third-coldest month of the year, after December and January. The average high temperature rises from 44 degrees at the start of the month to 49 degrees by the end of the month. The average low temperature rises from 18 degrees to 23 degrees over the course of the month.
February also is the sixth-snowiest month of the year in metro Denver, with an average monthly snowfall of 5.7 inches. February snow events are not as intense, however, and often have less moisture when compared with December and March snows. In February 2009, only a trace amount of snow was reported for the entire month.
The Climate Prediction Center is forecasting above-normal temperatures and near-normal precipitation for the Denver area this month. La Niña conditions will continue over the Pacific Ocean, with mild weather expected to dominate, especially over the last three weeks of February.
