Fullback is regarded as a position of need for Colorado during the current recruiting cycle, and with Tuesday’s commitment of Christian Powell from Upland (Calif.) High School, the Buffaloes have fortified that position. Powell, 5-foot-11 and 250 pounds, had been committed to UCLA for more than two weeks but told CU football coaches Tuesday that he will sign today with the Buffaloes, according to .
A two-way player for Upland, Powell rushed for 516 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior while recording 90 tackles and 15 sacks as a defensive lineman.
If he sticks to fullback for Colorado, Powell figures to battle another incoming freshman, Clay Norgard (6-2, 240) of Highlands Ranch Mountain Vista, for playing time.
According to , Powell also received scholarship offers from Nebraska, Texas A&M and Washington.
Two other Upland seniors also are scheduled to sign today with Colorado: running back Donta Abron and cornerback Marques Mosley.
