Denver attorney Willie Shepherd pleaded guilty to attempted third-degree assault in a plea deal stemming from a .

On Tuesday, Shepherd was sentenced to 12 months of supervised probation, according to state court documents.

Shepherd, the former finance co-chairman of the Democratic National Convention host committee, — a class one misdemeanor. Those charges were dismissed and Shepherd pleaded guilty to the class two misdemeanor.

If Shepherd, 44, does not complete or violates his probation, he could face 180 days in jail.

On Sept. 13, Denver police were called to Shepherd’s house by his wife, Sarah Trainor-Shepherd. She said that she was the victim of domestic violence.

Officers arrested Shepherd the next day, after learning that Trainor-Shepherd reported she had received seven stitches after her husband struck her on Sept. 6.

Shepherd posted a $2,000 bond and was released the next day.

In March 2010, Shepherd received a public censure by the Colorado Attorney Regulation Counsel for misrepresentation made while he was at the law firm Kamlet Shepherd & Reichert. Shepherd founded the firm with Jay Kamlet and later Lee Reichert, but later left under controversy.
