The murder case against Kevin McGregor has gone to a Boulder County jury.
In a methodical closing statement aided by a Power Point presentation, Boulder County Deputy District Attorney Karen Lorenz told jurors today that McGregor was guilty of first-degree murder, felony murder and aggravated robbery and the evidence supported those charges beyond a reasonable doubt.
“How could such a horrible crime happen in such a beautiful place?” she asked as she began her closing argument. “Was it random? Was it unplanned? Was it an accident? No. The only random thing was Todd Walker and Elizabeth Roach’s decision to turn on 10th, putting them in the path of the defendant.”
Lorenz illustrated the definitions of the charged offenses with photos seized from McGregor’s computer in which he displayed a handgun and pointed it at the camera. She quoted his rap lyrics that he was “poised for attack” and “waiting to erupt.”
In a dramatic closing argument, public defender Eric Zale said prosecutors had failed to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt and wanted jurors to convict McGregor based on inflammatory photos and rap lyrics that were the work of an “angry, angsty” teenager.
