Police on Tuesday morning arrested a Longmont man on suspicion of attacking his sleeping girlfriend and beating her with his fists and the handle of a hammer, according to reports.

The woman suffered a broken bone and multiple facial fractures, and a doctor told police that she has a “substantial risk of serious permanent disfigurement.” She was referred to a facial surgeon.

Gilbert “Freddie” Vasquez already was wanted on an outstanding warrant on suspicion of domestic violence and first-degree criminal trespass from an incident with the same woman in November, according to reports.

The woman told police that Vasquez was with her at her home on the 500 block of 15th Avenue at 11 p.m. Monday, and she was ready to go to bed when she and Vasquez got into an argument. She told police he wanted to use her laptop and then accused her of cheating on him. She told him to use the laptop in the living room and yelled at him that she wanted to go to sleep. She said she went to bed, then woke at 3 a.m. to Vasquez hitting her repeatedly in the face. She told police she suspected he used a fist. Cmdr. Jeff Satur said that investigators believe he also used the handle of a hammer during the attack.
