University of Denver freshman wing Ty Loney has been suspended and will begin serving his punishment in this weekend’s home-and-home series with rival Colorado College.

He will not play in tonight’s game against the Tigers at Magness Arena, but a team spokesman said he might be available Saturday night at the Colorado Springs World Arena.

“Ty Loney has been indefinitely suspended based on breaking some team rules, team policy,” DU coach George Gwozdecky said Thursday.

Loney, son of two-time Stanley Cup winner Troy Loney, is on a seven-game points streak (six goals, 12 points) since being promoted to a line centered by Hobey Baker Award candidate Drew Shore. Loney scored three goals in last weekend’s 4-2 and 6-3 victories at Alaska Anchorage, including two in the series finale.
