The shared national TV spectacle is alive and well, no matter how many other screens are in play and how much multitasking is going on at the same time.
A record 111.3 million viewers watched Sunday’s Giants-Patriots Super Bowl, up a tad from last year, to become the most-watched telecast ever. (Remember when the “M*A*S*H” finale held that distinction, with an audience of 106 million?) That makes seven consecutive years of increases for Super Bowl TV ratings.
It was a win-win for NBC: the game ended in time for “The Voice” to be seen in primetime on both coasts.
“The Voice” performed better than “Glee” in the post-Super Bowl slot last year, by 47%. The NBC swivel-chair singing contest scored 37.6 million viewers, reportedly the best since “Greys Anatomy” in 2006.
