About 15 homes in Walsh have been evacuated after a tank filled with a farming chemical exploded this morning.

The tank, which was holding a form of ammonia, exploded on thesoutheast edge of the rural town, located in the southeast corner of Colorado, according to the Baca County Sheriff’s Department.

No injuries have been reported.

Hazardous material crews are at the site and the area around the tank has been blocked off, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The leak has stopped and crews are assessing the tank.

As a precaution, about 15 homes have been evacuated after a reverse emergency notification program was activated. No schools have been affected by the explosion.

The tank was attached to an application trailer when the explosion happened. The trailer was parked when an axel broke, causing a valve on the tank to break as well.

It is unknown how much of the chemical has leaked out of the tank.

The chemical is used for farming, officials said.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
