A Denver police helicopter followed a man suspected in a domestic violence case until he ditched his car, tried to hide from the overhead lights in a greenbelt, then surrendered to police on the ground tonight.
The man, who has not been named, ditched his gray Chevy Camaro, scrambled into James A. Bible Park as police cars arrived and waited for him to come out.
When he emerged at about 7:30 p.m., he surrendered to police at East Harvard Avenue and South Oneida Street, said Denver Police Detective John White.
White said police on the ground never chased the Camaro in late afternoon traffic, but instead maintained a distance without flashing lights as the helicopter told officers where the man was headed.
Charges are pending, White said immediately after the man was arrested.
