DENVER—Three engineers who questioned the structural integrity of Meeker Elementary School are under investigation for failing to notify a state licensing board of their concerns.
The complaints were filed against Luke Studer of Steamboat Springs, Frank Bumgarner and Wayne Muir, The Denver Post () reported Friday.
Studer was an engineer hired by the school district. Bumgarner and Muir were hired to conduct a third-party review that uncovered serious structural defects that led to the school’s closure.
The licensing board is part of the state Department of Regulatory Agencies. A program director at the agency, Angie Kinnaird Linn, said the board wants to know why the engineers didn’t alert them about alleged substandard practices by the firm that designed and built the school—the Neenan Co. of Fort Collins.
State law requires licensed engineers to report any engineers who have violated provisions that could lead to punishment.
Studer, who initially raised concerns about the building, said the men were doing their jobs. The two other engineers didn’t return calls seeking comment.
