Two alert people pounded on the front door of a Colorado Springs home last night to warn residents of a smoldering attic fire.

The incident, and perhaps life-saving action, happened at about 10:30 p.m. at 1074 Jet Wing Drive, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department crime blotter.

Two people were dirving by the residence “when they noticed smoke traveling across the roadway,” police said. “Finding this odd they turned their vehicle around to investigate.”

The pair spotted fire coming from the roof of the home and they began pounding on the front door. A person living there came to the front door and was warned about the fire.

A family – a couple, three children, and a dog – safely got out of the home “due to the quick and heroic actions” of the pair, police said.

Firefighters responded to the home and were able to contain the fire to the roof and attic. No one was injured.
