Fort Collins police are investigating two separate accidents that resulted in three women taken to hospitals with injuries on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

At about 11:12 p.m. Saturday, Elizabeth McCarron, 21, was hit as she walked in the roadway on Plum Street, west of City Park. McCarron wasn’t in an intersection or painted crosswalk.

Nicholas Ciurczak, 19, who was driving a 1995 Isuzu Trooper west on Plum Street, hit his brakes but was unable to stop. He collided with McCarron, who was taken to Medical Center of the Rockies, and treated for moderate injuries, according to a release. “Police do not believe Ciurczak was speeding, distracted or under the influence of alcohol. Police do believe McCarron consumed alcohol before the collision,” according to the release.

The investigation is continuing.

Almost two hours later, a Colorado State Trooper witnessed a head-on collision near Mulberry Street and Lemay Avenue.

A 1999 Chevrolet sedan barreled past the trooper at more than 80 miles-per-hour. The driver, Rhonda Winters, 39, of Fort Collins, lost control when she changed lanes to avoid other westbound traffic, according to the release.

“The sedan rotated counter-clockwise through the intersection and onto the raised center median on the west side of the intersection. It continued west, striking the center cement Jersey barrier.”

The vehicle then collided with a 2002 Toyota Tacoma that was travelling east.

Winters, and Holly Mannan, 30, of Fort Collins, both received minor injuries and were taken to Poudre Valley Hospital for treatment.

Anyone with information about either collision can call Officer Drew Jurkofsky at (970)221-6555.
