In general, iOS (the software for iPhones) is regarded as an easier system to use and learn, while Android is known for its customizable features. Both include e-mail programs, Web browsers and access to online stores to download third-party apps. Microsoft is trying to get back into the mobile game with the Windows Phone OS but holds just a tiny share of the market.
