COMMERCE CITY, Colo.—A 60-year-old woman whose grandson died after being taken to a hospital has been formally charged with first-degree murder.
Adams County District Attorney Don Quick said Tuesday that Doris Becky Trujillo also has been charged with child abuse resulting in the death of 4-year-old Gabriel Andres Trujillo of Commerce City. The Adams County coroner says his death Friday was a homicide due to blunt force injuries to the head and neck.
Documents in the case have been sealed by a court order.
Trujillo is due in court for a hearing Feb. 28.
State records show she had been caring for Gabriel and also had been awarded custody of Gabriel’s sisters, ages 10 and 13. She doesn’t have any previous arrests.
