(8) Grand Junction 57, (9) Loveland 48.

Justin Whiting and Broderick Robinson each had 13 points as the Tigers (15-8) advanced to take on top-seeded Arapahoe in the second round.

(5) Legend 74, (12) Brighton 47.

Legend led 43-22 at halftime and never looked back. Derrick White, who had four steals, led the Titans with 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting, and Jonas Santana pulled down 10 rebounds. Legend faces No. 4 Fossil Ridge on Friday.

(7) Smoky Hill 70, (10) Arvada West 45.

Smoky Hill led 18-7 after the first quarter and 41-22 at the break in cruising to an easy Round 1 win. Gregg Johnson had 18 points, while Trent Clay had 17. Smoky will travel to No. 2 ThunderRidge in Round 2.

(6) Cherokee Trail 51, (11) Legacy 38.

Josh Smith scored 12 points, Jay Nelson added 11, and Cherokee Trail kept Legacy at bay in the second half. The Cougars get No. 3 Denver East on Friday.


R.W. TRUSCOTT REGION

(8) Poudre 69, (9) Prairie View 49.

Jason McClellan exploded for 41 points, and Poudre coasted in the first round. “Career high and life high right now,” he afterwards. Poudre will face No. 1 Regis Jesuit in the second round.

(5) Chatfield 86, (12) Heritage 50.

Chatfield moves on to play No. 4 Rangeview.

(7) Rock Canyon 72, (10) Pine Creek 56.

Rock Canyon used a monster fourth quarter (26-7) to wipe out a one-point deficit and move on to face No. 2 Ralston Valley in the second ronud. J.T. Travis had 23 points for Pine Creek in the loss.

(6) George Washington 70, (11) Northglenn 30.

TreVante O’Neal led GW with 18 points, Jordan Brown added 12 and Jevon Taylor chipped in with 10 as the Patriots cruised with a 39-16 second-half advantage. Up next: No. 3 Cherry Creek.


GLENN WILSON REGION

(8) Montbello 72, (9) Hinkley 67.

Montbello held off Hinkley’s second-half rally to move on and face No. 1 Fairview. Jonathan Newsom had 24 points in the loss for Hinkley, while teammate Dondre Smallwood had 21.

(5) Mountain Vista 70, (12) Overland 57.

Elijah Valdez and Stephen Chipman each had 14 points, leading five players in double figures, as Mountain Vista advanced to play No. 4 Aurora Central. Mitch Carter had 12 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, while Eric Nevins and Matt Miller each had 10.

(7) Monarch 75, (10) Lakewood 69.

Lakewood mounted a furious fourth-quarter rally, but it wasn’t enough as Monarch held on to advance and play No. 2 Highlands Ranch. Ben Beauchamp had 24 points for Monarch, Alex Krason had 17. About Highlands Ranch, a team many aren’t giving Monarch much of a chance against? “We’ve been known to provide some upsets and play above the level of expectation in the postseason,” Monarch’s Wes Moon . “We feel we have a chance to do that on Friday night.”

(6) Standley Lake 49, (11) Ponderosa 39.

Despite shooting just 11-of-40, Standley Lake battled past visiting Ponderosa. Good free-throw shooting helped (21-of-26, including 11-of-12 in the fourth quarter), as did having Brandon Applehans, who led all scorers with 25 points. . Standley Lake will play No. 3 Grandview.


RAY BALL REGION

(8) Dakota Ridge 67, (9) Rocky Mountain 62.

Elijah Davis had 20 points, Abdullah Musleh added 15 and Dakota Ridge held off Rocky Mountain to earn a date with No. 1 Chaparral. Rocky Mountain actually led 57-53 with four-and-a-half to play, , but Dakota Ridge made free throws down the stretch to seal the win. The Eagles finished 13-of-18 from the line.

(5) Eaglecrest 48, (12) Fort Collins 30.

Eaglecrest led 40-15 heading into the final quarter, and cruised to an easy first-round win. Eaglecrest moves on to play No. 4 Fountain-Fort Carson.

(10) Mullen 70, (7) Liberty 59.

In the lone upset of 5A’s first round, Mullen used a strong second half to take down seventh-seeded Liberty. Liberty scored the first four points of the second half to take a 41-34 lead, but Mullen then went on a 15-4 run to seize the lead heading to the fourth quarter. Mullen will play No. 2 Columbine on Friday.

(6) Lincoln 70, (11) Pomona 49.

Gabriel Vazquez had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Lincoln to Round 2 against No. 3 Fruita Monument. Andrew Muniz and Michael Sparks each had 12 points, while Jonte Dotson added 10 for the Lancers.
