An Edgewater man pleaded guilty Tuesday to firing off more than 350 rounds from a semi-automatic pistol, pinning down officers and neighbors for hours last April.
Lupo Wolf Solazzo, 26, told authorities he was firing his 9mm pistol from his bedroom window, because he had been drinking earlier, when he was attacked by a man who wanted money for drugs, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office said this afternoon, in announcing Tuesday’s plea deal.
“Solazzo said the guy knocked him out and when he came to he went home and got his gun to protect himself from the guy,” prosecutors stated.
Solazzo’s mother, sister and three young children were inside the home at 2010 Marshall St. during the barrage.
More than 100 officers from several agencies surrounded the home, including the first two patrolmen who reported shots in their direction at about 12:30 a.m. The gunfire stopped at about 1:30 a.m., after authorities cut power to locate a muzzle flash. Neighbors said Solazzo laughed and acted strangely as he was led from his home just before 4 a.m.
“It is amazing that none of these police officers were hit,” District Attorney Scott Storey said in a statement. “This is truly an example of great police work where many agencies worked together to neutralize this threat and bring about a peaceful outcome.”
Solazzo pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted first-degree assault with extreme indifference. He faces 10 to 32 years in prison at his March 19 sentencing.
