DENVER—Colorado lawmakers are reluctant to spend more money trying to fix a troubled state welfare computer system.
According to the Denver Post ( ), the system has already cost the state more than $300 million and state officials say the state has no real choice but to spend another $17 million.
Last year, federal officials warned the state to make changes or risk losing federal funding.
The system processes eligibility for programs including Medicaid, food stamps and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families. It has been blamed for serious application backlogs after its introduction in September 2004.
