Before reading the preview check out the and . A preview of the secound round:
Class 5A
John Casey Region:
• No. 1-seeded Arapahoe hosts Grand Junction. So which Grand Junction team shows up? The one who lost to No. 2 seed Fruita Monument 64-34 in January, or the one who beat Fruita 71-65 in February? The Warriors can’t take these guys lightly.
• There’s a very nice second round matchup in two teams that have exceeded expectations this year when No. 5 Legend travels to 20-win, and fourth-seeded Fossil Ridge. Will Continental League battles serve Legend well?
• ThunderRidge can certainly not take this senior-heavy roster lightly as the Smoky Hill Buffaloes come to visit. A lot of senior pride on these two squads.
• There will be some boys who are very familiar with each other in this one from club and neighborhood ball as Cherokee Trail visits Denver East. Familiarity and bragging rights may bring out the best in both sides.
RW Truscott Region:
• I am sure Jason McClellan’s 41 points in round one for Poudre has the attention of coach Ken Shaw and Regis Jesuit. The top-seeded Raiders have a few guys who are capable of big scoring nights of their own.
• Chatfield may need another 86-point output to get it done in Round 2 as they face a hot Rangeview squad which is now healthy and looking good.
• Rock Canyon will need to roll their first round fourth quarter explosion into the Ralston Valley gym if they hope to contend with the 18-win No. 2 seed.
• A solid season finale for George Washington was followed by a 40-point Round 1 victory. Cherry Creek is tough on its home court and finished season with three Continental League wins.
Glenn Wilson Region:
• The Fairview Knights looked as though they enjoyed themselves as they watched Hinkley make a strong fourth quarter run at Montbello. The Warriors held on and will make it an interesting night in Boulder on Friday.
• Two teams who have continually improved throughout the season will tangle as Mountain Vista’s balanced squad makes the road trip to Carlton Hurst country at Aurora Central.
• Monarch is feeling pretty confident about their chances but Highlands Ranch is coming off a nice performance on the big stage of DU.
• If you enjoy point guard play, you are in the right place as Standley Lake earned the right to visit Grandview.
Ray Ball Region:
• You want a tough test before you visit No. 1 seed Chaparral, and that’s what Dakota Ridge got in their win over Rocky Mountain.
• Eaglecrest cruised over Fort Collins, but it will face a similar style of play and roster when they head south to league champion Fountain-Fort Carson.
• Yes, it sounds like a matchup set for Invesco field, but there will be some good hoops played here as Mullen’s upset-minded veteran roster visits a strong No. 2-seeded Columbine squad.
• Coach Vince Valdez continues to get the best out of his young Lincoln roster but they will now face perhaps their toughest test as Fruita Monument’s dynamic senior duo awaits.
Class 4A
Second round highlights:
• All of the 4A No. 1 seeds are 20-plus win teams, and none of them face a team with more than 12 wins in the first round. The No. 1 seeds expected to advance here.
• No. 2 seeds Valor Christian and D’Evelyn also boast 20-plus win seasons.
