CHICAGO—Workers who took over a Chicago window factory where three years ago employees did the same thing have called off their brief sit-in.
The United Electrical Workers union represents the 50 workers who began the sit-in after Serious Energy announced it was closing Thursday. The union says the company has agreed to stay open for 90 days.
The union and the company said Friday they’ll look for a new owner.
In 2008, workers made national headlines at what was then Republic Windows and Doors when they refused to leave after owners gave them just a few days’ notice before Christmas that the plant was closing.
Serious Energy, which bought Republic’s assets, on Thursday said it would close its Chicago factory and consolidate manufacturing at facilities in Colorado and Pennsylvania.
