CU loses Reese. Jen Reese, a freshman on the University of Colorado’s women’s basketball team, broke an orbital bone below her left eye during Thursday’s 68-46 loss at Stanford, according to . CU said Friday that Reese, who averages 7.8 points and 6.0 rebounds a game, will be out four to six weeks.

Mammoth routed. The Colorado Mammoth’s perfect start came to an abrupt halt as the Calgary Roughnecks sprinted to a 5-0 lead after the first quarter and went on to a 21-10 win at the Pepsi Center. The 21 goals were the most ever allowed by Colorado.

Perez hooks Santana. Denver boxer Manny Perez used a persistent and strong left hook to upset Puerto Rico’s Edgar Santana by unanimous decision in a junior welterweight bout in Dover, Del. Perez (18-7-1) traded early rounds with the taller Santana (26-4), who was favored to win on ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights.”

Rapids sign Zapata. The Rapids signed defender Luis Eduardo Zapata, a veteran left back from Cali, Colombia, as an international player.
