A gang member has been sentenced to 32 years in prison for shooting a man who was a police informant.

Dayne Muniz, 24, was sentenced today in Weld County for the May 2011 shooting.

The victim was shot after “five indictments were issued for gang leaders under the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act (COCCA),” according to the Weld County District Attorney’s Office.

In January, a jury found Muniz guilty of attempted murder, for which he was sentenced on Friday to 32 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections, the DA’s office said in a media release.

“Gang violence is not welcome here and we will fight it to the fullest extent of the law,” District Attorney Ken Buck said in the release.
