COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Authorities say a 23-year-old Colorado Springs man who parked and got out of his SUV on Interstate 25 near Castle Rock was killed when he was struck by another vehicle.
The Gazette ( ) reports the man parked in the right lane of the interstate at about 2 a.m. Saturday and was walking around his vehicle when a 41-year-old Monument man’s SUV struck the vehicle, which hit the victim and threw him into the left lane.
The victim’s passenger, a 25-year-old Colorado Springs man, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities, who have not released the names of those involved, are investigating if alcohol played a role in the crash.
It remains unclear why the victim parked his vehicle on the highway.
