LONGMONT, Colo.—A former Longmont bank manager who was found bound with duct tape inside the branch’s vault has been sentenced to four years in prison for staging the robbery.

The Longmont Times-Call ( ) reports District Judge D.D. Mallard sentenced Lizardo “Alan” Monje of Greeley on Friday. Monje was convicted in November of theft and conspiracy.

He was accused of participating in the Feb. 18, 2011, robbery that netted $310,000 from an Academy Bank inside a Walmart.

Monje told investigators a man with a knife forced him into the back office as he opened the bank, but authorities became suspicious based on the robber’s amount of knowledge about the bank and bank security.

The other suspect, Frank David Gutierrez, who knew Monje and played the part of the robber, pleaded guilty to felony theft.
