New car and light truck registrations in Colorado increased 10.7 percent in January from the same period a year ago. That growth far outpaced U.S. registrations, which were up 2.3 percent.
In Colorado, 10,319 new vehicles were registered in January versus 9,325 new vehicles in the same period in 2011 for a 10.7 increase.
During the same period, the used vehicle market — defined as vehicles seven years or older — declined 1.1 percent.
Tim Jackson, president of the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association, said that during the last three months, new car and light truck registrations “showed a positive increase of 20.1 percent, which was a nearly three-fold increase over U.S. registrations which were up 7.2 percent.”
Jackson said that Chrysler, Suzuki, Mercedes, Jeep, MINI, and BMW led new car registrations.
“Chrysler, alone, was up a whooping 157.5 percent,” said Jackson.
