FORT COLLINS — A plea deal is in the works for a Fort Collins man accused of stealing from the Bas Bleu Theatre Co., as well as from a charter school.
Matthew Shane Strauch, 24, faces two charges of theft and three counts of identity theft in connection to two separate investigations.
Strauch on Friday appeared before Larimer County District Judge Stephen Schapanski for a disposition hearing. But Strauch’s lawyer said she needed more time to negotiate a plea agreement with prosecutors.
Schapanski ordered Strauch to return to court on March 16.
Strauch was a former general manager of Bas Bleu — a longtime Fort Collins nonprofit — and was a board member and treasurer with the T.R. Paul Academy of Arts and Knowledge. Strauch resigned from the charter school two days after his arrest on Dec. 22.
Bas Bleu officials said they called police after learning that a $2,600 check from United Way of Larimer County had been deposited into Strauch’s false account.
Police say Strauch also made five unauthorized counter withdrawals from bank accounts owned by the charter school.
Strauch was director of finance for the Associated Students of Colorado State but he resigned from that position shortly after his arrest.
