John Grant Jr. had four goals and five assists as the Colorado Mammoth returned from the National Lacrosse League all-star break with a 16-13 win over Buffalo on Saturday in Buffalo, N.Y.

Colorado trailed 8-7 at halftime but was able to outscore the Bandits 6-4 in the third quarter and 3-1 in the fourth. The Mammoth is a league-leading 7-1 overall.

Goaltender Chris Levis had 47 saves for Colorado.

Rapids beats Mines in scrimmage. The Colorado Rapids cruised to a 4-0 win over Colorado Mines in the club’s final preseason scrimmage ahead of First Kick, next Saturday at 4 p.m. against the Columbus Crew at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

Rookie Tony Cascio scored twice in three minutes in the first half, and midfielder Jaime Castrillón scored the other two.

DU downs Hartford in men’s lacrosse. Senior Mark Matthews had three goals as the 12th-ranked University of Denver men’s lacrosse team (3-1) held on for its third straight win with an 11-10 victory over Hartford (0-3) at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on the DU campus.
