FORT CARSON, Colo.—Authorities say a Special Forces soldier assigned to Fort Carson has drowned in Florida where he was undergoing training.
The Army said Monday that 36-year-old Sgt. Luis G. Serrano died Sunday near Indian Rocks Beach, Fla.
The Pinellas County, Fla., Sheriff’s Department says a witness saw Serrano walking along a boardwalk or dock behind a hotel. The witness said the dock turned but the man kept walking straight ahead and fell into the water. The incident is under investigation.
Serrano was assigned to a chemical reconnaissance detachment in the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne). He served three tours in Iraq and one in Djibouti (jih-BOO’-tee), Africa.
His decorations include the Army Commendation Medal and Army Achievement Medal.
He is survived by his wife Jocelyn and two sons, D’Angelo and Davin.
