Rapids defender Anthony Wallace tore his Achilles tendon at practice Sunday and will miss a minimum of six months of the MLS season, the team said Monday.
Wallace, 23, was just working his way back from microfracture surgery on his right knee when he tore the Achilles on his other leg. Surgery is scheduled for Thursday with Rapids team doctor Wayne Gersoff.
Wallace was a key piece in the Rapids’ drive to the championship in 2010, starting all four playoff games. He came to the Rapids from FC Dallas in the middle of the season, in exchange for a fourth-round superdraft pick and a conditional pick this year.
He played in 10 games last year, starting eight and tallying one assist.
CU star honored. University of Colorado women’s golfer Alex Stewart, a sophomore from Elk Grove, Calif., was named GolfWorld national college player of the week after winning a tournament in New Orleans.
The Buffaloes, who were the runner-up team in the New Orleans meet, are ranked No. 14 in the Golfstat and Golfweek polls.
