At last year’s Red Bull Cold Rush at Silverton Mountain, 19-year-old Sean Pettit stomped a spinning backflip off an 80-foot cliff he had seen for only a few minutes from the valley floor.
“I was hurting big time after that cliff,” said Pettit, who stopped in Denver before rallying down to Silverton to defend his three Cold Rush titles at this week’s athlete-judged, multi-discipline contest. “The human body isn’t really made to take that kind of impact.”
That won’t stop Pettit from going huge again at Silverton Mountain, site of competition that marries big mountain lines with park-honed tricks. The field includes big names in free- skiing — Kye Peterson, Pep Fujas, Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, Andy Mahre and Dave Treadway.
