GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The Grand Junction Fire Department is promising to fix serious problems outlined in a report on how firefighters handled a major fire in a historic building last September.
According to a city report, there were serious communication breakdowns, inadequate training and other problems that hampered firefighters at White Hall, which served as a church, offices, classes, and community events.
One firefighter fell through the floor of the building and was rescued by colleagues.
According to KREX-TV ( ), Fire Chief Ken Watkins says his department got lucky and he’s vowing to make sure responses to large commercial structure fires are handled better in the future.
