PUEBLO, Colo.—Denver Christian sent iconic coach Dick Katte out in style as the Crusaders held on to beat Limon 54-50 in the Class 2A boys state championship game Saturday night.
Connor Kroshus and Alex Terpstra led the Crusaders (26-0) with 17 points apiece, giving Katte his eighth title in a 48-year career at Christian.
“That was a great championship game,” said Katte, whose career record is 876-233. “That Limon team wouldn’t go away. The great thing was, when they took a lead (45-44 midway through the fourth quarter), we responded right away.”
Gavin Leggitt led Limon (22-4) with a game-high 22 points. Jason Brown, the Badgers’ 6-foot-5 center, fouled out with 1:56 left at the Colorado State Fair Events Center, which helped Christian to gain the upper hand inside in the closing moments.
