LONGMONT — A man who tried to rob a Hover Street Subway this evening quickly found himself with no one to rob.

The attempt happened at about 7:05 p.m. when two female workers were on duty, one up front and one in the back room. According to police, the man walked in, found no one at the counter, and gave a note demanding money to the front worker, who was cleaning tables.

“That employee then went into the back room and locked the door,” police Sgt. Jim Bundy said.

The two employees stayed in the back until they heard the bell on the front door jingle and realized the man had left the store at 1801 N. Hover St., Brady said.
